Sanford-Spencer Family Papers 1780-1906.

Correspondence, financial papers, printer matter and personal micellany, 1780's-1906 of various members of the Stanford, Spencer, and Colt families. The Sanford-Spencer papers form a core of important early Erie County documents. Laura G. Sanford was a prominent local historian who collected primary documents to support her research on the first substantial history of Erie County circa 1861. Documents reveal Indian activity, early settlement patterns, information on the War of 1812, and Erie and Philadelphia court cases. Prominent individuals represented by correspondence or other material in this collection include: Judah Colt, Giles Sanford, Laura Sanford, Myron Sanford, and Judah Colt Spencer.
